As an integral member of the Client-Based Laboratory (CBL) infrastructure, the CBL Project Manager manages the building of the CBL business anywhere they are needed.  More specifically, the CBL Project Manager will travel to new CBL sites to manage and support the management of the CBLs through the Transition and Steady-State phases. With an estimated 90-120 day period for each Transition phase, the CBL Project Manager can expect to be assigned to approximately three to four CBLs per year, depending upon the unique challenges and complexity of each CBL

Responsibilities

Summary of Essential Duties and Responsibilities

         Transition Phase (usually 90-120 days)

While permanent staff are being hired and onboarded, this position will serve as a member of the QuickStart Team to immediately begin work for the new CBL client.

At the immediate startup of a CBL, the CBL Project Manager will triage the incoming work to determine whether the instrument will be calibrated at the CBL, sent to another Transcat lab, or sent to an approved supplier.  They will also perform calibrations through direct calibration of the instruments at the CBL or by performing the review of vendor calibration certs to complete those work orders.  As the permanent technician(s) for the CBL are hired, onboarded, and ramp up their calibration duties, the CBL Project Managers will ramp down their direct calibration work and start training and supervising the permanent calibration technicians’ work.  Over the course of each Transition Phase, the Project Manager’s calibration tasks start at 100% of their time and reduce to less than 10% over the Phase.  In any given year, the calibration tasks equate to about one-third of a Project Manager’s time.

         Steady-State Phase

Once the CBL reaches Steady-State, the Project Manager will perform data reviews of technicians’ work across multiple CBLs, remotely, to assist the Calibration Operations Managers with that supervisory function.

In addition, during the Steady-State phase, the Project Manager will move on to the next CBL startup (a Transition Phase at a new CBL), while still performing data reviews of the technicians’ work across multiple CBLs.  In addition, whenever technician turnover occurs at a CBL, the Project Manager will also fill in to complete the calibration work, ramping down as the replacement technician is hired/onboarded as described above.
