A Datasheet Writer (DW) collects, develops, composes, and edits technical material for creating calibration datasheets and associated reports. In addition, the DW will have the ability to calibrate test equipment in at least three measurement disciplines – with advance experience in at least one discipline.

Responsibilities

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Obtain, research, and collect source documents for developing and producing calibration datasheets for technicians to perform calibrations. This includes technical manuals such as, but not limited to: U.S. Air Force 33K procedures, U.S. Navy Navair calibration procedures, U.S. Army Technical Bulletin calibration procedures, International Standards Organization or American National Standards methodologies, and equipment manufacturer publications.
  • Using approved procedures, produce calibration datasheets of a general nature and customer specific datasheets.
  • Review and approve pending datasheets produced by other members of the Datasheet Team.
  • Revise rejected datasheets until they are correct and approved.
  • Interface with technicians, lab managers, and other members of the Datasheet Team as required to research calibration procedures.
  • Interview technicians and/or related personnel and read journals, reports, and other material to become familiar with calibration procedural methods.
  • Organize and maintain internal library of equipment manufacturer manuals, specifications and procedures.
  • Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format and content.
  • Must be able to explain calibration issues and processes to customers when needed
  • Coordinate and manage daily workloads (datasheets and calibrations) with little or no direction from management
  • Identify and utilize appropriate measurement techniques
  • Clear comprehension of test equipment specifications and ability to create uncertainty budgets
  • Other duties may be assigned

 

Primary Objectives:

  • Create, update, analyze and approve calibration datasheets in a timely fashion to meet customer requirements
  • Assist, train and develop fellow DWs
  • Perform calibrations while analyzing calibration processes and associated uncertainties
  • Develop and implement process improvements

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experienced in at least three measurement disciplines with advanced understanding of at least one discipline
  • Familiarity with complex instrumentation, tools and test equipment
  • Must be able to work with and understand new test equipment technologies and associated concepts
  • Advanced proficiency with business software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Advanced organizational and time management skills
  • Candidates with experience in PMEL (Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory), TMDE (Test Measurement Diagnostic Equipment) calibration laboratories or equivalent is highly desired
  • ASQ Certified Calibration Technician (CCT) certification and/or statistical background is a plus

Education and Experience:

  • A diploma from a technical, military or trade school and/or an associate’s or higher degree in engineering, electronics, or related technical field with 5+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
