Position Summary

A Benefits Specialist is a proactive and enthusiastic Human Resources professional who administers and explains employee benefit programs, such as health insurance and retirement plans, to employees and management. The Benefits Specialist understands that our benefits program is a key differentiator for us as an employer and is committed to being an employee experience ambassador.  Key responsibilities include managing benefit records, assisting with enrollments and insurance billing, providing guidance on benefits-related issues, maintaining and tracking benefit and leave data, and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations. The Benefits Specialist is expected to have strong analytical, communication, customer service and organizational skills, with a focus on efficiency and a desire to develop a deep understanding of various benefit options and related laws.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee administration and participate in developing strategy of U.S. and Canadian benefits programs to include medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, employee assistance programs, retirement, and other plans, including open enrollment planning and implementation and ensuring insurance billing is reviewed and processed for timely payment
  • Support the administration of employee leave and accommodation programs in compliance with the ADA, FMLA, Disability, Workers’ Compensation, and other applicable laws; maintain and track leave and accommodation data
  • Present our benefits and wellness programs, in person and virtually, ensuring clarity and understanding of our offerings and options
  • Conduct benefit orientation sessions for new employees
  • Evaluate industry standards and benchmarking for employee benefits and wellness programs to strengthen the company’s ability to attract and retain employees
  • Develop new and enhance existing communication plans and resources to assist employees in making maximum use of available programs to facilitate overall wellbeing
  • Manage Transcat’s benefit enrollment system technical requirements. Partner with internal HR and payroll SMEs to facilitate testing, implementation of changes, and process documentation
  • Maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, consultants, and vendors regarding service quality and resolution of issues
  • Oversee and manage wellness strategy, communication and implementation of companywide programs focused on the seven main elements of wellness: physical, intellectual, emotional, social, vocational, financial, and environmental; identify trends and best practices to optimize use of company resources with maximum impact for our employees
  • Assist other HR staff by making benefits and wellness a part of the recruitment and management process, training programs, and employee experience
  • Utilize shared inbox/ticketing system to ensure timely response to employee questions and concerns; organize and evaluate data
  • Model the Company’s values to influence others to perform in an aligned manner.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge and hands on experience with MS Excel
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Excellent project planning, problem-solving, and collaboration skills

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, HR or other related field
  • At least two years’ hands-on Excel experience
  • Strong foundational knowledge of benefit administration
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP a plus
