Overview

Essco Calibration Laboratory, A Transcat Company is looking for an experienced Laboratory Supervisor to oversee daily operations and ensure compliance with ISO 17025 standards. This role supports the Laboratory Manager by managing workflow, supervising and developing staff, and maintaining high levels of productivity and quality. The ideal candidate will bring proven leadership experience in a technical environment, a solid understanding of calibration processes, and the ability to coordinate team leads while driving process improvements. Strong organizational skills, technical aptitude across electrical, mechanical, and temperature disciplines, and familiarity with calibration software such as IndySoft are highly valued.

 

The Laboratory Supervisor supports the Laboratory Manager by overseeing daily lab operations, ensuring productivity, quality, and compliance with ISO 17025 standards. This role includes supervising and training laboratory personnel, scheduling and balancing workloads, supporting technical staff, and driving process improvements. The Laboratory Supervisor also plays a key role in calibration quality assurance, documentation, and customer support, while fostering a safe and efficient work environment.

 

Salary: $80,500 Annually - $110,000 Annually

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include the following, with other duties may be assigned):

  • Oversee daily lab operations to ensure work is completed efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with ISO 17025 standards.
  • Schedule, assign, and balance workloads across shifts and teams to meet deadlines and customer requirements, coordinating expedited work as needed.
  • Hire, train, and manage laboratory personnel, including setting onboarding goals, conducting performance reviews, and providing ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Manage the lab’s training program by developing and updating SOPs and work instructions, scheduling and delivering training, and performing routine program audits.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for Team Leaders and technicians, providing technical guidance, resolving workflow issues, and ensuring safety policies are followed.
  • Review and document calibration data in line with company and customer procedures, making edits as needed to maintain accuracy.
  • Support customer inquiries, sub-calibration requests, and repairs; work with internal teams to resolve technical or operational concerns.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of lab supplies, place requisitions, and submit proposals for capital expenditures when necessary.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives, automation projects, and proficiency testing, including validation and implementation of new procedures or technology.
  • Conduct quality checks on calibrations, assess measurement capabilities, and take corrective action for any nonconformances.
  • Collaborate with lab management to communicate updates, implement new policies, and address policy or procedural concerns.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or a related field with 3+ years of management experience in a technical environment;
  • OR Associate degree in science, engineering, or a related field with 5+ years of management experience in a technical environment.
  • Proficiency in calibration techniques within assigned disciplines.
  • Experience working in an ISO 17025 and/or ANSI Z540 accredited environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with accreditation body requirements (A2LA, NVLAP, ILAC-MRA) preferred.

  • In-depth knowledge of calibration principles, laboratory operations, and ISO 17025 compliance requirements.
  • Excellent organizational, scheduling, and workflow coordination abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working across teams and with customers.
  • Proficiency with calibration management software (e.g., IndySoft) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in documentation and quality control processes.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and confidentiality.

  • Noise levels are generally quiet to moderate.
