Capabilities/Pricing Instrumentation Database: Maintains the organization's Transcat capabilities and pricing database.  Responsible for maintaining and updating Manufacturer Management listings, which include manufacturer names, instrument models, instrument ranges, instrument accuracies, and instrument descriptions, assigning the appropriate Metrology discipline and subgroup, while evaluating and assigning lab capabilities.  Performs research to ensure these entries are accurate.

Responsibilities

  • Upon request from multiple departments (sales, cal labs, quote group, marketing) Technical research evaluates new items that are to be placed into the capabilities and pricing database or modifies current entries to make them more accurate.
  • Works on capabilities and pricing projects, as directed.
  • Using multiple resources (internet, manufacturer catalogs, manuals, etc.), perform research to determine the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of an instrument, its model number, and proper description before entering or correcting any entry in the capabilities and pricing database.
  • If this research uncovers a company merger or buyout, the Technical Research Specialist can edit or merge manufacturers creating an alias.
  • Reviews OEM’s accuracy specifications and compares them to each lab’s ISO-17025 Scope of Accreditation to decide on each lab’s capabilities and enter these capabilities into the capabilities and pricing database.
  • Updates the cal lab capabilities section of the capabilities and pricing database when either a new entry has been made or to correct an existing entry.
  • Updates capabilities and pricing database regarding Manufacturer Name, Model, Range, Accuracy, Description, Lab Capabilities, Subgroup, etc., or for non-Transcat calibrations (TMS items) regarding TMS Vendor(s), TMS Prices, etc.
  • Assigns the correct standard cost discipline and subgroup to each item in the matrix. If no subgroup exists, inform the Technical Research Manager that one is needed and continues with the pricing matrix entry per the guidance of the Technical Research Manager
  • Determines whether the instrument falls within Transcat repair capabilities and assigns the appropriate flat repair pricing to the instrument.
  • Works directly with sales and operations personnel on new items solely deciding whether an item will be calibrated by Transcat or will need to be calibrated by a vendor and updates the capabilities and pricing database
  • Solely decides what subgroup a new item should go in or if a new subgroup needs to be created which directly impacts the pricing and has a significant impact on Transcat’s business.
  • Researches and reviews OEM calibration procedures to determine if Transcat can perform the same calibration. If needed, will get Lab Managers, Metrology Team, or other technical resources involved.
  • Updates models in the capabilities and pricing database to present accurate information to support accurate capabilities and pricing for quoting and efficient inter-lab transfers to minimize wasted shipping costs.
  • Receives requests from sales personnel to help identify additional points for various items that directly impact the pricing we charge our customers.
